Stephanie Gorton wrote _The Icon and the Idealist: Margaret Sanger, Mary Ware Dennett, and the Rivalry that Brought Birth Control to America_ (2024) and _Citizen Reporters: S. S. McClure, Ida Tarbell, and the Magazine that Rewrote America_ (2020), a finalist for the Sperber Prize for journalism biography. Her work has been published in _The New Yorker_, _Smithsonian_, and _Paris Review Daily_, among other publications, and she has appeared on radio shows including _On Point_ and _Slate Political Gabfest_.
