STAGING

Collective Defiance is a list of local town halls, protests, and other community events in defiance of the Trump administration.

We only support non-violent action. In addition to being a moral imperative, non-violence is a political strategy. It leads to social change by intentionally provoking compassion and empathy on the part of the viewer. Research shows that it is 10 times more likely to result in democratic change.

To add an event, please post the details to BlueSky with the hashtag #CollectiveDefiance.

New Yorkers are showing up in the streets, at the court house, and at the ballot box to fight back. Have you been to a protest but aren't sure what to do next? Been working on the mayoral race and want to channel that energy into further organizing? Or are you just feeling really overwhelmed and not sure where to start? Come get involved in our community of NYers engaged in sustained, long-term action for racial justice! We have teams working on immigration, policing, incarceration, Indigenous solidarity, and more, all in close collaboration with partner organizations across the city. **Join SURJ NYC on Saturday July 12th for an in-person gathering in Central Park** to get grounded together, get clear on our analysis of how we got here – and then get organized for the work ahead. It is letting the public know our opposition to this theft of our democracy and the rampant corruption that entails. And when a government fails to protect those rights, the people have the power—and the responsibility—to demand change. Let’s proudly show that Long Islanders celebrate democracy, freedom, and the spirit of resistance. Bring your flags, signs, and energy. Let’s line the overpasses and make it clear: we are a people who believe in liberty and justice for all. Resist Tyranny. Defend Democracy. Stand Together. For The Many

Kingston Calls + Cocoa

Thu Jul 3 @ 10pm • Kingston, NY 12401
Imagine that someone calls you. They tell you about the new rights that you have as a tenant because tenants (just like you) fought for and WON a law called Good Cause Eviction. Then, they tell you about the plan they have to replace Central Hudson with a publicly owned utility company so that your electric bills go down and invite you to be a part of it... You'd probably be pretty happy they called, right?! On Thursday night, we're going to be the ones calling to share the good news. Our phonebanking objective varies based on what we want to mobilize people around. Right now we're focusing on letting tenants know about their protections under ETPA/GCE (don't worry if you don't know what these abbreviations mean!), the Hudson Valley Power Authority, and HR9495. We have a script, we have the phone numbers to call, and we have a training so that you'll have everything you need to have great conversations. Plus, we'll have hot cocoa waiting for you! ***Please bring a laptop, phone, and headphones***
