STAGING

Collective Defiance is a list of local town halls, protests, and other community events in defiance of the Trump administration.

We only support non-violent action. In addition to being a moral imperative, non-violence is a political strategy. It leads to social change by intentionally provoking compassion and empathy on the part of the viewer. Research shows that it is 10 times more likely to result in democratic change.

To add an event, please post the details to BlueSky with the hashtag #CollectiveDefiance.

Lower East Side, Manhattan, NY: Petitioning for Bucks for Boilers Act

Thu Dec 4 @ 9pm • New York, NY 10002
Given major issues at the federal level, we need our state and city governments to step up, meet the moment, and implement transformative renewable energy policy. So we'll be out in the Lower East Side to petition and flyer for the Bucks for Boilers Act, a bill to fund the replacement of outdated, dirty gas with clean energy! If passed, Bucks for Boilers will mandate that all gas boilers in need of replacement are replaced with heat pumps through a state-funded program. Ultimately, a home that is properly insulated and using the latest electric heat pump technology will result in lower bills over time. The Bucks for Boilers Act is an investment in our future. We'll be collecting petition signatures urging local State Senator Kavanaugh to join on as a co-sponsor!

Love as Action - New York

Sat Dec 6 @ 6:30pm • New York, NY 10003
Quaker witness for public action has stood in silent opposition to cruel and authoritarian actions in our country before. It is time for us to show this love in action again. Please join the American Friends Service Committee and NYQM to bear witness to the destruction and dehumanization that federal immigration actions are inflicting in our communities. ### On Saturday Dec. 6 at 1:30pm we will gather near Union Square for one hour of silent public worship. We will meet at 15 Rutherford at 1:00pm to walk over to Union Square together. Our hope is that our presence will give heart to all who see us - including through media and online - and remind everyone of our moral obligations to one another. This is the first of what we hope will become ongoing in future months across our country, showing love in action as a public witness of our Quaker values in a time of rising fascism.

NYC SAT 12/6 @2-4ish: Community group meeting w/ Target Majority NYC

Sat Dec 6 @ 7pm • New York, NY 10024
If you've been alarmed by the Trump regime's latest break glass power grabs and assaults on American freedoms, then you know it's time to Fall Back to Activism. Join Target Majority NYC's next in person community meeting and we'll help you plug into work that makes a difference. **IMPORTANT: Please look for a call, email and text from us the week before the event, when we will confirm if the start time is at 2 or 3 -- the meeting will be 2 hours** We'll always meet in Manhattan, but you will receive each week's specific location by email and/or text/phone a day or two in advance. At the meeting, you'll get to talk with likeminded NYers about ways each of us can have powerful impact. Most important, you'll leave with the info you need to start taking action together with others -- because this is the antidote to despair. One of the greatest lessons of this time is that, whatever we may feel, we are not alone. _Building our community is one of the strongest actions we can take to ultimately stop authoritarianism, and being together – helps._ Wherever you are at, there is something powerful you can do – even simply coming to a community meeting. Each meeting starts with a half-hour orientation to our 4 work teams, our social affinity circles, and our approach to slowing and stopping the fascist takeover of our government and culture. Come to one session or keep coming to all. Everyone who loves our freedoms, our democracy, and each other are welcome. In solidarity and peace, The TMNYC Core Team **A core principle behind all TMNYC events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.**

Bronx Hands Off NYC Mass Training

Sat Dec 6 @ 5pm • The Bronx, NY 10468
Date: Saturday, December 6 | Time: 12 PM - 4 PM Across the country, we’re watching a coordinated push toward authoritarian rule gain speed. Trump and his allies are openly laying out a plan that includes mass deportations, sweeping civil rights reversals, politicized courts, and a direct assault on our city. We don’t have to wait for these threats to become reality. We have the power to intervene now—but it requires all of us choosing long-term, community-based organizing. Join HandsOffNYC for a 4-hour borough-wide mass training designed to plug you in, power you up, and connect you with neighbors who are ready to get involved. These sessions will give you the tools, know-how, and community you need to take action and protect your neighbors. We will go over what's happening, offer skills training like know your rights, ICE watch, how to organize and mobilize, and we will break into neighborhoods so you can connect with your neighbors and start getting organized. This training will take place in the Bedford Park section of the northwest Bronx. Come build skills, make connections, and move forward together. Hands Off NYC brings together unions, community groups, and faith leaders committed to protecting our city from federal intervention. The training is conducted in cooperation with Freedom Trainers. A core principle behind all Hand Off NYC events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. We expect hosts to ensure all participants in your event uphold this commitment. Also, having your full name displayed will facilitate admission from the waiting room. We may request clarification from you in the waiting room chat. **Warm Cookies of the Revolution will join us on Tuesday, December 9, at 10:00am ET.** Evan Weissman is the founding executive director of Warm Cookies of the Revolution, the world's first Civic Health Club, that blends innovative arts and culture with crucial civic issues. His work with Warm Cookies includes creating over 400 arts-based civic programs (live events, installations, videos, music, and books). Since 2012, we have engaged more than 1 million participants through wildly innovative programs that actually get real people to engage in democracy and civic life. Our motto is Vote Every Day. We focus on the 364 days of the year that are not election day. People are busy. After a day of work and taking care of our families, there is a reason why Netflix, the NFL, and shopping are where most people spend their time and money. Instead of shaming people for not being more involved, we make civic life as irresistible and joyous as possible. We know that civically engaged people vote, volunteer, and live healthier lives. We strive to build community, educate voters, and use our Sharpies to write to save democracy together. Write postcards with us or just join the conversation. Jewish phonebanks for free speech

Thu Dec 4 @ 11pm • Princeton, NJ 08544
Join us from wherever you are to call Bend the Arc members in states where there are active efforts to codify the IHRA definition of antisemitism. Together, we will let them know about the dangers of these bills and and ask them to speak out in opposition as Jews! Join to learn about the issue and for a training about how to phonebank using our easy dialer tool. Whether it is your first time or your tenth, all are welcome! Across the country, lawmakers are trying to codify a definition of antisemitism called the IHRA definition. As American Jews, we understand the need for a robust response to combat antisemitism. But codifying one definition of antisemitism is unnecessary, and this specific definition poses a threat to free speech and open discourse, and undermines the fight to dismantle antisemitism. Supporters of these bills are trying to paint the picture that all Jews support this effort, and that the opposition is antisemitic — but we know that is not the case. Read more about why we and many Jewish organizations oppose the IHRA definition here: https://www.bendthearc.us/aaa_statement If you can't make these but are interested in joining future events, fill out this interest form and we will follow up: https://forms.gle/GrYWWAbGaXLnXtPW9

December Post-Election Public Meeting

Thu Dec 4 @ 10pm • Collingswood, NJ 08107
CRI's next monthly public meeting is December 4th. From 5pm-7pm, we'll host a CRI Holiday Market member vendor fair, with members of our chapter and other folks from the community showing off their skills and wares. Let's say no to Corporate Christmas. Instead, you can fight the oligarchy by getting some holiday shopping done and supporting your community all at the same time. The meeting will begin at 7:00pm. We'll debrief the election results for NJ Governor and Legislature, then host a training on the Six Pillars of Authoritarianism and how we can affect them to protect ourselves from MAGA fascism. And of course, this is an opportunity to gather with likeminded folks to celebrate another year of fighting for democracy together.

ILNH Signs of Solidarity 2 — Lambertville

Sat Dec 6 @ 6:30pm • Lambertville, NJ 08530
**Signs of Solidarity Event in Lambertville** There have been dozens of incidents across the country of ICE agents entering small businesses without warrants and detaining people. But business owners can take some simple steps to protect their workers by posting "employee only" signs for the private areas of the business — which indicates that a signed warrant is required to enter that area. At the same time, business owners can make sure that all immigrants know they’re welcome at their establishment by posting welcoming signs in the front windows. For this event, we go out in pairs to approach local businesses to invite them to put up signs in their businesses. Before heading out, we will review what to say and hand out signs. Then we will gather afterward to discuss how it went.
