STAGING

Collective Defiance is a list of local town halls, protests, and other community events in defiance of the Trump administration.

We only support non-violent action. In addition to being a moral imperative, non-violence is a political strategy. It leads to social change by intentionally provoking compassion and empathy on the part of the viewer. Research shows that it is 10 times more likely to result in democratic change.

To add an event, please post the details to BlueSky with the hashtag #CollectiveDefiance.

Beacon Shine the Light Thursdays

Thu Aug 28 @ 11pm • Great Neck Plaza, NY 11021
This a local Indivisible event! Join The Beacon for Thursdays at 7, Shine the Light, as we bring our voices to the street every Thursday. Each week, we make our voices heard wherever we are. As beacons, we shine light by making a sign and bringing it outside—in front of our houses, apartment buildings, to our street corners, subway stops, etc. Our signs proudly share whatever we’re feeling in our souls in the face of this regime’s actions. Our signs might read, “I Stand With Our Immigrant Neighbors,” or “Honk if You Love Ukraine,” or “Trans Rights Are Human Rights,” or “Read Banned Books.” Together, we are building visible resistance and organized compassion, meeting our neighbors, and joining together in acts of solidarity. Our local Beacon group meets on the corner of Grace Avenue & Bond Street in Great Neck Plaza (adjacent to the municipal parking lot, across from the diner). For more information on the Beacon, visit beaconfordemocracy.org *A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.*

In Defense of Democracy at West Point and Highland Falls, NY

Fri Aug 29 @ 7:30pm • Highland Falls, NY 10928
It's football season at USMA at West Point--and we are launching a series of protests to take advantage of the home games and the crowds who attend from all over the country. These protests take place outside the gates, in Highland Falls, so there's no need for an ID card or visitor's pass. Let's support the military in their NON-PARTISAN mission to support the USA and our traditional ALLIES (Canada is our friend, and we support the Ukraine, not Russia!) Let's make noise about the abuse of the National Guard in D.C. and L.A. We are here to be a voice in support of Veterans and the VA; we believe diversity is a strength in the military (women, POC, LGBTQ+); military and spouse women's healthcare and abortion access rights are under threat by this administration and we are not happy. The USA is founded on immigration-not the terror that ICE brings to our peaceful communities. Theme ideas: "GO ARMY, DEFEND DEMOCRACY" "GO ARMY, SINK PROJECT 2025" "GO ARMY, BEAT TYRANNY" No profanity on protest signs, please! We are running a delicate balance of respect for the military, and revolt against the Trump administration. https://indivisi.org/safety *A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action.
